What To Eat
Foods that are slow to digest and absorb, inherently create a slow rise in blood sugar keeping insulin levels at a minimum. These are the foods that are at the core of healthy eating. Foods have a ranking system called
Glycemic Index (GI). GI measures carbohydrates (sugars) on a scale of 0 to 100. Higher GI foods cause sudden spikes in blood sugar, stimulating the increased amounts of insulin. When this happens there becomes too much insulin which never gets utilized and eventually stored as fat. This not only causes obesity, but type 2 diabetes.
Low GI diets are known to improve blood sugar, insulin and fat in the blood levels of people with diabetes. Benefits also include weight loss and feelings of fullness longer. Recent studies from Harvard School of Public Health suggest that the risks of diseases such as type 2 diabetes and coronary heart disease are strongly related to the Glycemic Index of the overall diet. And in 1999 the World Health Agency (WHO) and Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) “recommended that people in industrialized countries base their diets on low-GI foods in order to prevent the most common diseases of affluence, such as coronary heart disease, diabetes and obesity.” Ironically the rise of these conditions in America is out of control.
In any of our TLS programs we always begin and monitor body composition by measuring the percentages, and ratios of all the parts that make up the body mass. These include: fat mass and fat free mass which can be broken down into metabolic tissue, water that is in and out of the cells, bone and fat. We utilize Bio-Impedance Analysis (BIA) to accurately oversee what is going on during a weight loss program on a cellular level. It will show if your are dehydrated or toxic. It will give you your Body Mass Index (BMI) and specifically your Body Metabolic Rate (BMR). When we know exactly how many calories it takes to run your body and depending on your lifestyle we can manage down to the specifics of your food intake. This means that not all weight loss programs are treating the body fairly. Some weight loss programs focus on inches lost and the amount of weight reduced by the measurement of a bathroom scale. This is not scientific or healthy by any means. Healthy weight management is about maintaining muscle mass while decreasing and keeping fat mass at the desirable level for each individual. There have been numerous clinical studies proving that by using certain products and a low GI food plan, lost closely to the same amount of weight and inches, but what differentiated these 2 groups was that the group who utilized mainstream highly advertised products, their weight loss included the loss of muscle mass whereby those who utilized the research backed nutraceutical products did not lose any muscle mass and in some instances they gained muscle.
